It’s been a while, but today I’ll be talking about my server and making more open information where all my services are running on (the Minecraft server but also this website!). While the specs may scare you, it’s still working pretty well despite its low power usage.
About
I’m running Proxmox VE on my NUC7i3BNH. The specs are below:
CPU | Intel Core i3-7100U |
iGPU | Intel HD Graphics 620 |
RAM | 16GB DDR4-2133 (4GB in the past) |
Hard drives | NVMe/PCIe: 2TB Samsung 990 PRO SSD SATA: 120GB Sandisk PLUS SSD USB: 128GB SK Hynix SSD (old laptop SSD, dying) and 320GB Samsung S2 Portable HDD |
As you can see, I’m not per se running the best hardware for a server. Still, I have got all of this running:

It’s much, but it works. However I do sometimes feel that doing multiple things at the same time causes problems. For example, keeping my Windows 11 VM turned on and my Minecraft server using the game server panel container at the same time causes my Minecraft server to timeout sometimes.
The Beginning
When I got this NUC one and a half years ago, I used to only have 4GB RAM in here. It was used and came from a school so don’t expect much from it. However I upgraded to 16GB RAM and most things are fine, although I wish I got 32GB instead (for running more small processes).
The adventure
Ever since then, I started doing more things with my server and feel more like a sysadmin. There’s a reason why I got a new 2TB drive in here for things, but there’s more. I got access to 500GB of a NAS with redundancy, so I thought it was finally time to configure a backup server for things. It now backups to there at 12 AM every Wednesday and Sunday.
I recently also started setting up the firewall, so not everything can come through. I had a lot of hassle configuring, but I put the port into the source while it had to go into the destination…
This website is also one of the more recent things I’ve been doing on my NUC. The container originally was called ‘Webserver’, but I renamed it to ‘Web-server’ to be more English. Later on I changed it once again to ‘NGINX’ since the container also serves as reverse proxy for my WireGuard VPN, BlueMap and a few other web services now.
Now that I think of it: you can actually go to https://bluemap.minionguyjpro.dedyn.io and view the minimap of the Good Creations server (the Minecraft server) there freely, including a 3D view. Tell me how the performance is according to you (by that I’m referencing to the loading, not the performance you get with moving since this is dependent on WebGL and your hardware in total).
If you have got any questions about my NUC, feel free to drop them below! I’d be happy that answer most questions.
